The Dominko homestead

The village of Gorišnica boasts the oldest, completely restored Pannonian house – THE DOMINK HOMESTEAD, which is over 300 years old. ( The Domink homestead lies on the main road Ptuj – Ormož in the municipality of Gorišnica).

The house is wooden. It is plastered with a thick layer of clay plaster; we say it is "cimprana". It is built on the "corner" (akel, keyed). The living and farm parts adjoin. It is an open-air museum. All the objects in the house are preserved.

Under the thatched roof it hides a wonderful black kitchen, the "house", a parlour, a pantry, a hall, the farm part – a barn, a stable, a handy workshop, a litter shed and a grain cellar.
Among the furnishings we find everything from devotional pictures and small altars, a bed from the beginning of the century, chairs from various times, to the roughly hundred-year-old bread oven and the objects in the black kitchen, which reflects the way of former life.

A characteristic sign of the Pannonian house is also the maize crib.

In front of the homestead in the summer, local inhabitants occasionally perform theatre plays.

A visit to the homestead is possible every day, by prior arrangement at: 02 743 11 10
