Use public transport
Whenever possible, choose the train, the bus, a bicycle or walking. Slovenia is small and many places are well connected by public transport. By using sustainable forms of transport you reduce traffic pressure and emissions.
Explore on foot or by bike
Towns, villages and natural attractions are often best experienced slowly. For shorter distances, choose walking or cycling, and use the marked paths and cycle links.
Respect nature
- walk on marked trails
- take your waste with you or dispose of it in the appropriate containers
- do not pick plants and do not disturb animals
- observe the rules of protected areas and nature parks
- do not light fires in places where this is not permitted
Reduce the amount of waste
Carry a reusable bottle, a shopping bag and other items you can use more than once. Avoid unnecessary packaging and separate your waste properly.
Save water and energy
Use water and energy thoughtfully on holiday too. Switch off lights and air conditioning when you do not need them, and do not have towels and bed linen changed more often than necessary.
Support local
Choose local providers, home-made products, locally grown food and traditional dishes. By visiting local inns, farms, markets and smaller providers you directly support the communities you are visiting.
Choose sustainable accommodation
When choosing accommodation, look out for providers that take care of efficient use of energy and water, waste reduction and the use of local products and services
Take only memories
Let your visit be pleasant also for those who come after you. Leave nature and the cultural heritage as you found them, and through your conduct help to keep Slovenia green and pleasant to visit.
