From the church in the centre of Lenart, where the starting point is, you ride towards Jurovski Dol through the settlement of Varda. During a shorter stop after the opening kilometres you can look at the church of St George, then, after crossing the Globovnica stream, a demanding climb to Sp. Gasteraj awaits you. The effort is repaid with views over the Slovenske gorice, which do not run out as far as Zg. Velka, where the highest point of our route also is – the church of Our Lady of the Snows at an altitude of 402 m. Before this you crossed the valley of the Velka stream, which for a cyclist means a short and steep descent and then a climb. Another descent and climb, which are the characteristics of this route, await you as far as Trate, when in an arc through Lokavec and Rožengrunt you turn back towards Lenart, and while riding you have the chance to observe the plain along the Mura on the Austrian side. At the tourist farm in Rožengrunt you can take refreshment, since after a few kilometres of gentle descent a demanding climb awaits you again, this time to Sv. Ana with the church of the same name. After a winding descent an easy ride follows to the finish in Lenart through Froleh and Spodnji and Zgornji Žerjavci. In Sp. Žerjavci there is a kilometre or so of gravel path, but it is well compacted and passable also for road cyclists and will probably soon be asphalted.
Lenart is the largest settlement in the central Slovenske gorice, which is mentioned as early as the 12th cent. In the time of the Reformation it was a strong centre of Protestants, and the place got its name from the church of St Leonard , which is first mentioned in 1196. It received its present Late Gothic appearance at the beginning of the 16th cent. and is considered the finest example of Late Gothic in the Slovenske gorice. In Jurovski Dol there is the church of St George from 1388; the present Gothic building has been remodelled several times. The church of Our Lady of the Snows was built in 1689, and the present building with a façade bell tower 100 years later. It was once a famous pilgrimage church. In Trate stands the lower Cmurek castle, which is first mentioned in 1145. The castle, Romanesque at its core, has quite a few special features: a Renaissance arcaded courtyard, an interesting Gothic portal with a tympanum on the western façade… The other, upper castle in Trate is the Kapral castle, a more recent mansion from the 19th cent. In Rožengrunt there is a filial Marian church, and the place Sv. Ana is named after the church, which was built in 1705 on the site of a former wooden chapel from the middle of the 17th cent. By the road stand a plague shrine, called the Pomorski Cross, from 1637 and a chapel from before the Second World War. The large altar is the work of J. Holzinger, whose work is also visible in the church at Zg. Velka.
Because of its varied terrain the route counts among the more demanding ones. Despite the narrow roads the ride is pleasant, as you rarely meet a car, which is also true of riding on the main roads.
