The lead and zinc mine

In the underground of Peca a lead and zinc trail of spilt sweat and blisters wound for centuries. The Romans already sought ore deposits here, while the first written sources about the exploitation of lead ore are from the year 1665.We record this year as the beginning of mining in our parts. The long years of mining marked the valley and the life of the people at the foot of the Karawanken in a particular way. The ‘miner's shift’ deep below the ground and the history of mining are presented today by the Tourist Mine and Museum in Mežica.
The peculiar charm of the underground also shows itself in the minerals glinting here and there out of the crevices.
