Church of the Holy Trinity, Hrastovlje

On a rocky rise above the village of Hrastovlje stands the well-known Romanesque little church of the Holy Trinity from the beginning of the 12th century. It is surrounded by a wall with two fortified towers, which shows that the church once had the character of a fortress.

All the interior walls are covered with frescoes; the most precious among them are the frescoes of the Istrian master John of Kastav with scenes from the Old and New Testament and the famous depiction of the Dance of Death, which ranks at the very top of medieval wall painting in Slovenia.

The church is included on the list of world cultural heritage.
