Described and presented is a part of the arranged cycle route between Izola and Sečovlje (»The Path of Health Friendship«), which is routed along the former narrow-gauge railway line between Trieste and Poreč and operated between the years 1902 and 1935. The route is intended for walkers and cyclists and is thus ideal for an afternoon family outing, for example while spending a holiday on the Slovenian coast. We join the cycle route in Izola; at the junction between Leninova and Prešernova ulica we head towards the hills of the hinterland and then soon notice the sign for the cycle route. We turn right in the direction of Strunjan and Portorož. The signs for the most part guide us well along a varied and undemanding route. Soon we come upon the lit Šalet tunnel (214 m), which is entirely walled with hewn stone blocks of local origin. Among vineyards and olive plantations we follow the cycle sign, direction Portorož, past Dobrava and Strunjan to the 550 m long, likewise lit Valeta tunnel. We descend into Lucija and, observing the traffic signage, head past the campsite towards the Forma viva, to which a slight climb leads us. We continue the route past Seča (where we cross the main road) and Parecag to Sečovlje. From here on we can link up with the route in the Republic of Croatia.
