The Karst Kostanjevica Cave

At the foot of the Gorjanci, at the source of the Studena stream, the underground wealth of the karst Kostanjevica Cave, the largest karst cave in Dolenjska, reveals itself to the eye. Here rainwater and underground watercourses have over millennia created wonderful dripstone formations of fairy-tale shapes.

The most attractive part of the Kostanjevica Cave has been laid out for tourist visits, while research into the whole cave area is still under way.

The karst Kostanjevica Cave is a habitat for the horseshoe bat. On the clearing in front of the cave, in idyllic surroundings and to the murmur of the stream, a pleasant corner for relaxation awaits.

The cave can be visited between 15 April and 31 October on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and in the summer months (July and August) every day at 10h, 12h, 14h, 16h and 18h.
