Sevnica Castle

The mighty Sevnica castle stands on a rise above the old town core of Sevnica. The estate was at first in the ownership of Duchess Emma of Gurk, from whom it passed into the hands of the Salzburg archbishops, and then it changed owner several more times.

A particularity of the castle garden layout are the cultivated terraces, while the interior inspires with rich paintings, among which the Baroque frescoes of the four seasons stand out. In the castle chambers there are today, among other things, a magnificent conference hall, a wedding hall, a firefighting and school museum, a museum about the deportees and an exhibition gallery.

The lively cultural pulse of the castle is given by the cultural events of the Sevnica castle summer, while numerous legends and anecdotes wrap it in a veil of mystery. Some are also connected with the former Protestant prayer room, Luther's cellar.
