The greater part of the Pokljuka plateau lies at an altitude of 1200 to 1500 metres. The cross-country trails, which in winter attract both recreational lovers of the white plains and competitors from all over the world , are led across Rudno polje and among the Pokljuka forests; in summer these are very popular among pickers of forest fruits. On the slopes that surround the plateau farmers graze cattle and sheep and make cheese. Pokljuka, with its position, is also a starting point for mountaineering and alpine climbing routes into the Triglav range.
