Mašun lies at an altitude of 1025 m in the beautiful setting of the Snežnik forests. It is the meeting point between the municipalities of Ilirska Bistrica, Cerknica, Pivka and Loška dolina. Once it was predominantly a forestry settlement the beauty of unspoilt nature and clean air attract more and more tourists from near and far. To visitors we offer a walk along the Mašun forest educational trail, cycling, while for the more demanding an ascent of Snežnik lasting about four hours would be fitting.

Winter sports lovers have a small ski slope, a toboggan run and well-kept cross-country trails available.

Our guesthouse Mašun Knežak is famous for its game cookery; we also offer other dishes to order. You can choose among dishes of game, bear paws, bear steaks, dishes of deer and wild boar and other delicacies. Guests can choose between a larger dining room with 60 seats, a smaller one with 12 seats and a bar with 16 seats. In summer we also serve in the garden, where a pleasant breeze will cool you; adults can compete at bowls while the children meanwhile enjoy themselves in the playground. We also organise ceremonial dinners and lunches (anniversaries, end-of-year gatherings, weddings, various meetings,…).

Lovers of nature and fun can treat themselves to a picnic in Jurček, a covered picnic area, organised by us or by themselves.

You can see the remains of the castle, the SCHÖNBURG HUNTING MANOR, and you can even spend the night in one of its towers.
