For the start of the tour one usually chooses Kranjska Gora, or Gozd Martuljek. The two of us this time began a little higher, because of tiredness from the previous day and the unbearable heat. Of course we thereby also marked out the descent, which for that reason ran along the direction of the climb, but we avoided the hot climb along the asphalt road towards the pass. We began at the right-hand macadam turning off the road towards the border crossing Korensko sedlo. The good road for the first twenty minutes climbs gently through dense forest. Then the climb becomes a little steeper, especially after every crossing of a torrent bed. From time to time a wonderful view opens up, at first of Podkoren and Kranjska Gora, and later also of the whole Špik group in the Julian Alps. The tour is not demanding in terms of navigation, since all the time we cycle along the main track, and there are only few turnings. We also cross two gates, which of course we must close behind us. When we have also bitten through the hairpin above the Jurež pasture the climb is over for a while, and up to the turning for the Blek pasture the road rises only a few times. At the gate, by a trough, we are also offered the chance to top up our water supply. Soon after the trough we come to the turning left upwards towards our goal. There follows the last climb, which is quite steep, but is nicely repaid with the wonderful view on the pasture. At the hut is an ideal place for a rest before the descent. THE DESCENT begins with a fine section, along the cart track on the pasture, back to the macadam road. Here we can continue from the pasture left towards Železnica and, before the track begins to rise, descend right along the track by the Jerman stream. The cart track is very demanding especially at the beginning, but later the descent becomes better. We also ride past an abandoned sawmill, which evidently stopped working in the middle of a sawn log. We come to Srednji vrh, an exceptionally fine little village above the valley. From here we then descend along the asphalt road to Gozd Martuljek and then along the cycle path into Kranjska Gora. We two, as already said, descended along the route of the climb, but since the road is good this variant is also quite all right.

An exceptionally fine, panoramic, medium-demanding tour with excellent views of the Julian Alps, especially the Špik group. I recommend a visit in fine weather with a high cloud base.
