Tolmin is the largest place in the upper Soča region and the administrative centre of the Soča valley, lying at the confluence of the Soča and the Tolminka, surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps. Its natural jewel is the Tolmin gorges, the lowest entry point into the Triglav National Park, where the two rivers have carved deep defiles into the rock with pools, a natural bridge and a warm spring.
Above the valley stands the memorial church of the Holy Spirit at Javorca, an architectural monument from the time of the First World War.
