An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device capable of detecting cardiac arrest in a person. With an electric shock it can restart the heart and thereby save a life.<\/div>\n

It consists of a housing with a battery, from which two pads – electrodes lead out. Depending on the model, on the housing we may find at most 2 buttons (for switching on and for delivering the electric shock), a loudspeaker (through which the device gives us voice instructions in Slovenian) and, on some, a screen on which the instructions are also displayed.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

It is safe and simple to use; absolutely anyone can use it.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

By itself, of course, the device does not save lives, but it is an extremely welcome addition to resuscitation with chest compressions (cardiac massage) and artificial respiration.
